Youth Festival

This year Shakespeare in Action is proud to launch a landmark new program in our first annual National Shakespeare Youth Festival!

The National Shakespeare Youth Festival is a multi-disciplinary arts festival held simultaneously at schools across the country. Students select one of Shakespeare’s plays and develop creative responses through the various festival categories, including duologues, scenes, movement/dance, design and film. Outstanding students progress through a preliminary in-schools festival to the national festival weekend in Toronto (May 8 & 9, 2010).

At the National Festival, awards will be granted to top students in each category, and we will name a Shakespearean School of the Year and Shakespearean Teacher of the Year.

Students can choose to work on any one of Shakespeare’s plays, and are encouraged to take as much dramatic license as they wish. This festival is all about putting students in the driver’s seat – we want young people to express their unique perspectives and voice, all through the lens of Shakespeare!
